According to their website's mission and purpose statement, disruptED "exists to provide excellent interactive educational tools to children. We imagine a world in which learners of all types thrive as they engage deeply with content using the technology of tomorrow. Our aim is to spark joy in learners and empower their educational journeys. We achieve our vision by developing AR and VR learning tools, and bringing them to market in the most approachable way."

disruptED provides a variety of resources including a VR headset, worksheets for parents and teachers, and an immersive FREE app (AR)! Check out the explanation video below for how disruptED works:

With the app, students can select books to read and then decide if they want to use the feature through their VR headset, if they have the starter pack, or through AR, through their phone, which is how I used the app. Students can then select if they want to be read to or read the book themselves. Each page is interactive and fun for the students. The material they are learning is being presented to them in a unique and engaging way, making it exciting to learn. I was able to download the app and use it easily and freely from the Apple App Store Here are some pictures from my experience using the app!

This educational tool is powerful for classrooms as well as school libraries, check out their reasonably priced products here: https://disruptedx.com/shop. These can be purchased through school library budgets and added to teacher wish lists. These learning kits are designed for children aged at least 3 years old so it is the perfect tool to introduce VR and AR learning to young children. This tool is a great way to help developing readers learn a love for reading as well as build cognitive skills like learning and understanding shapes, opposites, and letters! This tool can be used to supplement lesson material, as a brain break activity, as students arrive for the day, or when students are winding down to get ready to go home for the day.

A primary school teacher, Ryan Kurada, was interviewed about his experience using disruptED in his classroom. He states this tool was just what his primary school students needed to supplement their typical lessons through their curriculum in a unique way! Here is his interview:

  1. Thank you for sharing this resource! I like that the program offers students the ability to read the book independently or to have it read to them. That is very helpful and adds a level of accessibility to the classroom. Great post!

  2. This seems like such a cool resource! I love that the children can choose to read themselves or to be read to, because sometimes you'd just prefer to be read to. Also, it offers interaction with books for children that may struggle with reading. The fact that they can interact with the pages is also very cool! This seems like a fun way to have kids interact with books while not really feeling like they are learning.
