Reflection of ISCI761: My Biggest Takewaway
Information Technologies in the School Library: Reflection
I learned a copious amount of helpful information over the past few months in this course, so I am not sure I will be able to discuss just one takeaway. I feel as though the material learned in this course was some of the most useful in regards to my future career as a school librarian, mainly the school website assignments. The very first assignment for this class was to search, analyze, and evaluate school library websites. That assignment inspired me by giving me the tools to know that a school library website needs to be user friendly and informational. I was able to see websites that were great and not so great for users. It was helpful to see these websites to go ahead and get an idea of what my school library website should look like. The very last assignment in this course is the creation of our own school library website. We have been given the freedom and tools to create and the knowledge of what a good school library website looks like. This will be one of the most helpful skills to have already mastered once beginning a career in school library.
I am thankful for the opportunity to get so hands on with creating our own school library environment, whether it be our school's social media (even fake!) or our digital curations. Throughout the course, we developed blogs where we researched technologies for our school libraries. I will have the ability to help with bringing technology into the classroom and library because of this! My biggest takeaway was all of the useful information this course has given me in beginning my future career.
